The Board of Trustees at St Pius X School is a vital part of our school's governance.
As with all state-integrated schools in New Zealand, our Board is responsible for the governance and direction of the school, working in partnership with the Principal and staff.
Catholic state-integrated schools are state schools, funded by the Government through the Ministry of Education, but they have some key distinguishing features. Our school's Catholic character, which is embedded in the Church, influences student enrolment, staffing, and curriculum.
The Proprietor, who is the Bishop of the diocese, owns the school's integrated land and buildings, sharing responsibility for their maintenance and insurance with the Board.
The Proprietor appoints up to four members to the Board, while other members are elected by parents and staff. All Board members, including the Proprietor's appointees, have the same responsibilities in governing the school, with the understanding that the whole Board is responsible for upholding the school's Catholic Character, as defined in the Education Act 1989 and our Integration Agreement.
Board members typically serve a three-year term, but there may be vacancies from time to time.
The Board of Trustees at St Pius X School includes:
